Five Ways to Stay Productive While at Home

Hi everyone! I hope that everyone is doing well during this coronavirus pandemic. I am doing okay; I never realized how much I took being able to travel, go shopping or being able to socialize for granted. With all the stay in shelter orders, it is easy to get stir-crazy or experience cabin fever. I want to share five things that I have been doing to stay sane and productive while working from home. I hope that you find them helpful!

  1. Create a schedule. Have a designated time that you will do schoolwork or work. Schedule meals and only eat during your scheduled mealtime. Set a time that you will get up and go to bed. By structuring your days, you are less likely to waste a day away. A great way to create a schedule is by implementing the one you had before the quarantine. If you are a student, study for classes during the time you would have had class at school. If you work and had hours you had to be at work, work during those hours.
  2. Have a designated workplace. Choose a place within your house that you will work at. If possible, choose somewhere that is not in your bedroom. By having a place designated to work, it will motivate you (hopefully) to complete assignments. Only do work at your workplace, try not to take work with you throughout the house. Having a designated workplace can help to reduce the stress of completing assignments.
  3. Take Breaks. In your schedule include breaks. A break could be going for a walk, watching a movie, cooking, or doing something that relaxes you. Taking breaks can help you to feel productive and it keeps you from getting bored.
  4. Have an accountability partner. This is important! Find a friend, a classmate, or a coworker that you can talk to throughout the day. Let them know when assignments are due or your goals for the workweek. Just by having someone to talk to, will make the day go by faster and you will not feel alone.
  5. Create Incentives. It is easy to say that you will complete the assignment tomorrow. By creating incentives it pushes you to complete tasks and not to procrastinate. An incentive can be watching a movie, having a home spa day, or anything that you were planning on doing instead of the work you need to complete.

Until Next Time,

Elyse
