My Story

I Wish.

I remember as a kid growing up and watching different TV shows and movies 12031402_1610974982497874_6716194692733244217_owhere people were granted wishes. I would sit there fascinated by how these wishes were granted. Cinderella had glass slippers and a stunning ball gown to wear to the ball; her wish was granted by her fairy godmother. Little Mermaid wish was to be human and her wish was granted as well. There are so many other childhood stories that share this idea where if you wish upon a star, your wish will come true. Spoiler Alert, this is not true; well not for my case.

About 16 years ago, my life was alerted in the most unimaginable way. My middle brother, Chris, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer found in the abdomen. I remember the day like it was yesterday, my mother thought that something was with my brother. He wasn’t eating and claimed there was a pain in his stomach. My parents took him to the doctor, who then had him go to the hospital to run tests. We were then told the news that changed my normal middle class family life forever: My brother had cancer.

As a young 6 year old girl I didn’t quite understand what cancer meant or how serious it was, all I knew was that Chris was in the hospital. I remember wishing that I had a fairy godmother, like Cinderella and she would grant me one wish. My one wish would have been for my brother to get better and for our lives to get back to normal.   However, I never got that wish. After 22 months of fighting cancer, my brother died.

Sitting here 14 years later I still wish that my brother never had gotten sick. I wish that the cancer never came and if it did my brother would have survived it. However, that did not happen so dwelling on it won’t fix anything. I still have one wish though.  I wish, no I pray that one day my family will be reunited. When Jesus comes back, He will raise Chris from the dead and my mother, father, other brother and I will be reunited in Heaven.

This is just not my pray for my family but for anyone who has experience lost. I pray that when Christ comes back that families will be reunited with the loved ones that they have lost. We can’t bring back the loved ones that we have lost but I know when Jesus comes, those who have died in Him will be raised from the dead and we who loved the Lord will be caught up in the sky and we will spend eternity with our love ones and Jesus forever. This promise that Jesus gives us is better than any wish I could ever make. I just wish that Jesus would come back soon so I can be reunited with Chris!

Until Next Time,

Elyse
